Basics 1 - Meditating On God’s Word

Do you want to fuel tomorrows triumphs? Spend time meditating on Gods word today.

Basics 1 - Meditating On God’s Word

The word of God is the raw material, milk and meat for the believer. It is taken in via the constant practice of meditation. You are never neutral, you are always meditating on something. However when the focus of your meditation is the word, great strides are made in spiritual walk.

Did you know worry is a form of meditation?

Jesus said, Where your treasures are, there your heart will also be, whether it be family, job or money. You will constantly be meditating on your treasures either positively or negatively. What’s important to you is what you will meditate on. This is why many find it hard to meditate on Gods word day and night.

Make therefore the word of God your treasure Says the Lord

The greatest success habit

Do you want to fuel tomorrow’s triumphs? Spend time meditating on Gods word today.

God’s will is success for us, and it’s no secret. I wanted to name this teaching: the secret to success. However God never made it a secret so neither should I. Success has something to do with what created the whole world - The Word.

Joshua 1:8 AMP This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.

The verse ends with God Himself saying …..and THEN you will be successful. When will we be successful?

There are two things God revealed to Joshua in this verse. The first is what we should do. What we should do consists of three things, the book of the law, our mouth while reading, and day and night. The second is the results of doing what God told us. These are twofold, empowerment to do Gods word and the prosperity and success.

Let’s look at the first part:

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read and meditate on it day and night… The things involved are: the book of the law, your mouth while reading and day and night.

The book of the law - This is referring to the bible generally but more specifically to the royal law of love in the New Testament.

Your mouth and reading - We must use our mouth in meditating on the bible. We must learn read the word aloud. People who were enlisted to record the Audio Bible reported that the effects or reading the Bible aloud for hours had an amazing effect on them.

Day and Night - We have to develop the habit of meditating the word of God continuously. One way to do this is to make it part of our vocabulary and only talk scripture and think scripture.

Now let’s look at the second part, the result of doing the first part…..so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful…..

The word has the power to make you do what it talks about. This is the first result of meditation. It’s called effortless change. Many struggle instead of meditating on the Word that created the planet. You could say that the word is the raw material with inherent power to make you do and obey it when meditated upon.

for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful…. Success is guaranteed by being careful to do all that is written in the word, and that ability comes by meditating on the word.

Habit simply means that anything you do twice becomes easier. You can create good habits just as you can create wrong habits.

Let’s look at some successful people of the bible and their habits:

Jesus

Jesus had the habit of standing up to read the word of God on every sabbath.

David

Psalms 119:164 Seven times a day I praise You, Because of Your righteous ordinances.

David had a habit of praising God seven times a day.

Daniel

Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he went into his house (now in his roof chamber his windows were open toward Jerusalem); he continued to get down on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously.

Daniel had a habit of praying 3 times a day.

Isaac

Genesis 24:63 Isaac went out to bow down [in prayer] in the field in the [early] evening; he raised his eyes and looked, and camels were coming.

Isaac had habit to go out in the field and now down in prayer. Most translations say he went out to meditate in the evening.

These people had impact because of their habits. Joshua 1:8 is the ticket to succes anytime anywhere.

Meditating on Gods word aloud day and night is the greatest success habit available to man.

Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my [firm, immovable] rock and my Redeemer.

In the above passage we see a silent aspect of meditation. You can stop talking all the time but you really never can switch off your thoughts.
Meditation is continuous and profound contemplation on a subject either positive or negative.

When your mind is focused on the lord, the first benefit you have is inner peace:

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], Because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].

Let me show you a mystery: whatever dominates your thoughts can be used to search you out in the realm of the spirit by wicked powers - just like rubbish attracts flies.

The fundamental propensity of a human being is to act. There is no such thing as inactivity. You must act and within that act is the fundamental propensity to serve. No one escapes service. You must serve something. Thoughts is as basic as it gets in acting and serving. A thought is an act and serves something. Either your fear, obsession or God.

Serve God with your mind through meditation. Whatever dominates your consciousness, that’s your treasure and that’s where your heart will be. Jesus began His teaching on worry by saying this:

Matthew 6:24-25 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. THEREFORE I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Notice Jesus equated serving mammon with taking thought or worrying about what you shall eat and what you shall wear. We might not be worshiping mammon directly but our meditations daily show that we serve mammon.

Ecclesiastes 10:20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

The bird here signifies the thought energies that can be carried away far in the realm of the spirit.

According to researchers, the vast majority--a whopping 75-98 percent--of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of our thought life. What we think about truly affects us both physically and emotionally. In fact, fear alone triggers more than 1,400 known physical and chemical responses in our bodies, activating more than thirty different hormones
