The God Kind Of Love 1.0
Human love can turn into hatred overnight
In the first message of this series, I will introduce the fact that God is love. We will see that Jesus majored on how much God loved Him whilst on the earth. We will discover that the Bible encourages us to know and believe this love God has for us and then copy it. We will then see the failure of natural human love under the pressure of selfishness.
God is Love - The shortest, simplest and most powerful sentence in the world in my estimation.
1 John 4:16 (AMP) We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with deep, consistent faith] the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.
God is not someone who has love - God is love. This is His most enduring attribute. “God is love” is one of the clearest declarations about God’s nature in Scripture.
Take the time to know and develop faith in this love. We spend time developing faith for everything else but Jesus developed His faith in God’s love for Him - He RESTED in God’s love for Him:
John 5:20 (ESV) For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.
John 17:23 (ESV) I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
John 17:24 (ESV) Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Notice in the scripture block above: whether in talking to people in the first two verses, or even in prayer as recorded in the last 2 verses, the Lord Jesus constantly acknowledged God’s Love for Him. You can do the same.
God‘s love for us is not without action:
1 John 4:16 (AMP) We have come to know [by personal observation and experience], and have believed [with deep, consistent faith] the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides continually in him.
Love is always manifested - God didn’t merely say He loved us—He demonstrated it by sending His Son to die for us. The second thing to notice is that God loves us before we loved Him. He makes first contact.
GODS LOVE NEVER FAILS
1 Corinthians 13:8 (AMP) Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.
We have seen that God’s love is an enduring love, unfailing love and inexhaustible love. Jesus constantly acknowledged God’s love for Him before man and in prayer. He rested in God’s love for Him.
No one can accuse God for not loving him. God’s love has yet to fail you. If you sit down and do the mathematics of your faults and compare them to how far you have come, you will know that God has loved you.
Great faith is the result of deeply knowing and continually growing in God’s love for you.
Much has been said about the love of a mother, but God’s love is greater in depth:
Since God is love, the quality and strength of His love is measured by who He is. If He is the almighty God, then He is the almighty love. It is not a fading love. God never turns against anyone.
If God is everlasting, then His love for you is everlasting:
The most important thing people are looking for is acceptance and rest from the burden of being reminded of their sins:
People often think that the first thing God is interested in, is talking about your sins - but the first thing God is interested in, is you. He never ever brings up your sins in an upbraiding manner.
This is just an introduction on God’s love for us. We have been told to walk in love, and the best way to do that is to copy God. You cannot give what you do not have, if you do not understand God’s love for you, then you cannot and will not walk in love towards others.
Natural Human Love Has Failed
Natural human love has failed because it is selfish. It has been unable to stand the tremendous test of selfishness. Natural human love always bows to selfishness. Even a mother is concerned with her own children and even has favourites amongst them.
In marriage, many marry due to erotic love, and that is rooted in selfishness. In family people love their own members, but that is also rooted in selfishness. Even amongst friends we see this relationship is based on selfishness. You have your friends, and then you have your enemies. Human nature has the capacity to selfishly love and hate at the same time.
God does not love like this - based on selfishness. He also does not hate based on selfishness. God hates sin because it hurts you.
Human love can turn into hatred overnight. Gods love endures till the end.
Families have crumbled, because their unity was based on natural human love, this natural love could not stand the test of selfishness, and crumbled. The same goes for every sphere of life, church or business.
NATURAL HUMAN LOVE CANNOT OVERCOME SELFISHNESS.
Lamentations 4:10 (AMP) The hands of compassionate women Boiled their own children; They became food for them Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people [Judah].
At times of great stress and famine even the natural compassionate mother could not stand the test of selfishness.
We will do well to study the love of God for us and walk in it. This is the mammoth task of this series. It cannot be done. I cannot do it. The Lord do for His church what He has anointed me for. Amen.
