“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”
GENESIS 2:18
I. THE PROMISE
After six days of “good” and “very good,” the first “not good” in Scripture is not sin — it is solitude without spouse. “It is not good that the man should be alone.” The Lord God diagnoses Adam’s need before Adam speaks it, then pledges action: “I will make him an help meet for him.” The Hebrew concept of this help is not a lesser assistant as a wife; this same word is used elsewhere of God Himself as Israel’s help. This helps us understand the dignity and strength contained in God’s design for the wife.
Here is the promise: you were never designed for isolation as your permanent state. Marriage is not human invention. It is God’s idea. He sees singleness and moves toward remedy. The same Lord who formed Eve from Adam’s side is your matchmaker.
II. REST IN IT
Your life might feel sealed off — in singleness. Rest in this: God said “not good” before you ever asked for a spouse. He knows. Refuse the lie that you will finish life single. Open your hands for the help He has already planned. God is your matchmaker. Many have been impatient in today’s world. They tried to find their own help meet and in today’s world, only God’s choice will do.
III. PRAY IT
Father, You saw that it was not good for man to be alone, and You made a helper. I ask You to be a matchmaker for me in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
