THE PILLOW OF PROMISE

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years… and it was so.”

GENESIS 1:14–15

I. THE PROMISE

On the fourth day God spoke again: “Let there be lights.” Ordered luminaries — sun, moon, and stars — set to divide day from night and to serve as signs, seasons, days, and years. The Hebrew word translated seasons points to appointed times: rhythms God Himself establishes. The happenings of your life are not random.

This is a promise of divine order in a world that feels out of control. God rules the calendar. No wonder David exclaimed, “My times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:15) at a time of danger, deep distress and uncertainty.

You are held inside the appointed times of a faithful Father who knows the end from the beginning. Do not elongate your season of sorrow by continual sorrow - rejoice that God changes seasons! Jesus told us to take no thought for tomorrow, focus on today.

II. REST IN IT

Your life might feel stuck between seasons — too late for one thing, too early for another. Rest in this: God has not lost the plot of your days. Trust His timing. Walk in the light He gives for this hour.

III. PRAY IT

Father, You set lights for signs and for seasons. Order my days. Teach me to discern Your appointed times, and keep me from fearing what You have already numbered. I ask in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
