“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.”
GENESIS 1:31
I. THE PROMISE
Six times God had looked and called His work “good.” When He created man, the verdict rises: from “good” to “very good.” Not barely acceptable. Not flawed-but-promising. Very good — the Hebrew means — exceedingly, emphatically good.
Some people are giving up on themselves in many situations instead of believing God’s very good. The NT says we are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). Be careful about criticising the workmanship of God - YOU! Don’t say negative things about yourself. You are - very good - God’s own workmanship.
II. REST IN IT
Where shame or cynicism has convinced you that nothing good remains in you or in your story, rest in this — God still says “very good” over what He has made you in Christ - you are His workmanship. His verdict outranks the world’s or your own. See yourself from the standpoint of who you are in Christ.
III. PRAY IT
Father, deliver me from my cynicism against myself. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank You for making everything in my life exceedingly emphatically good! Amen!
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31) — In Christ you are God’s workmanship, created for good works.
